text: If you graduate from the University of Applied Sciences as a biologist, you're allowed to study for six months longer
than any other degree program. When you ask how you could do it in two semesters, the answer is, "It's just the way
it is." According to the University of Applied Sciences courses, unequal treatment of equals is considered discrimination,
so biologists are simply not treated equally to other students and simply have to pay more and invest more time.

Feedback should always begin and end positively:
-The building infrastructure (when the hot water is not turned off) is very good.
Then to the negative:
-An attendance rate in every event is not exactly a sign of trust in the students. Doesn't the PH think that we can take personal responsibility during our studies? In addition, this attendance rate only applies to students and not lecturers. And if the lecturer decides to attend courses less often than there should actually be, the number of possible absences in this module also decreases. So if the lecturer is absent 3 times, as a student you can only be absent 1 time.
-Most modules do not correspond to what they teach themselves. We learn motivation theories in a monotonous PPP presentation that was pre-recorded two years ago. We learn about activating lessons in an event which is 1.5 hours of frontal teaching every week.
-There is no meaningful distinction between lecture and seminar.
-With the reaccreditation ISEK1 2024, the PH wanted to develop further and follow the wishes of the students. I don't know of any fellow students who now approve of these changes. As a student you are faced with a fait accompli.
-If there is a problem with the oh-so-flexible study planning (modules don't work in Muttenz), PH's solution when asked is always "You can take it in Brugg."
-Some courses are only available in Brugg, even if your study location is in Muttenz.
-Internships are not controlled, in some internships students are not deployed (just watch) and in the same internship at another school, students have to plan and teach entire lessons and even carry out sickness replacements. Unpaid, of course (only BL degree course, with unpaid internships)
-Many lecturers have never taught at the relevant level themselves, but think they know better than students who also have their own classes and have been teaching for years.
-Some modules are ideologically driven and statistics are shown that, without context, confirm the views and political opinions of the lecturers, but if you do your own research, you often find out that the core message and context of the study actually say the complete opposite.
And finally something positive:
-You have a very flexible course ;) , so that means: All modules are offered exactly once per semester (across locations), i.e. only once per calendar year in Muttenz. Some modules are not even on campus but in other towns. Certain modules are only available in Brugg (and as we all know, you can climb through a magical portal in Muttenz that takes you to Brugg for free within a 30-minute break).

I'm overwhelmed by the many negative experiences at the University of Teacher Education FHNW. While the building infrastructure may be good, that's also the only positive thing I can say about this university.
The 80% attendance rate for every class is not only patronizing to students, but also a sign that the University of Teacher Education lacks confidence in its students. While the attendance rate applies to students, instructors can decide whether or not to attend regularly. (Or the instructor might not show up for the entire semester, not even for exam reviews!) If an instructor is absent more than three times, students are only entitled to one more absence, which is a completely unfair policy.
Furthermore, most of the modules at the University of Teacher Education FHNW in Muttenz are a joke. They don't correspond to what they claim to teach. The presentations are monotonous and sometimes outdated, and the concept of activating teaching is taught in a frontal-style format. There is also no clear distinction between lectures and seminars, which leads to confusion and lack of clarity among students. Some lecturers don't even know that we are a secondary school level 1 course and only cover primary school examples with us.
The ISEK1 2024 reaccreditation was supposed to be an opportunity to follow students' wishes and develop further. But I don't know any fellow student who welcomes these changes. Instead, students feel confronted with a fait accompli and have no opportunity to express their opinions.
The problem of a lack of flexibility in study planning is also not being addressed. If a module isn't available in Muttenz, the PH's solution is always: "You can always take it in Brugg." Some courses are only available in Brugg, even though the course location is in Muttenz. This results in considerable effort and additional costs for students.
The internship placements are not monitored, and in some cases, students aren't even used, but are merely used as observers. In other internships, students have to plan and teach entire lessons and even cover for sick students, all unpaid. This is the only degree program in Basel-Landschaft with unpaid internships, which places an enormous burden on the students.
The discussion of the internships is also complete nonsense! This takes place during school holidays because the lecturers don't know when the holidays are in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. This course doesn't take place after the holidays because the lecturers are on vacation! The assessment of one's own teaching in secondary school by a lecturer who is a kindergarten teacher is ridiculous.
In addition, many lecturers have never taught at the relevant level themselves, but think they know better than experienced teachers who have been teaching for years. The unrealistic teaching of the lecturers is the height of nonsense...
Some modules are ideologically driven, and the lecturers present statistics without context that confirm their political views. However, if you do your own research, you often find that the core message and context of the study actually say the complete opposite. Studies with 20 participants are simply ridiculous! (A school class can easily have 20 students, and as we know, they are very diverse.)
I cannot recommend this university and advise anyone looking for a good education to look elsewhere and steer clear of this one.

Dear Management of the FHNW University of Teacher Education,
I would like to share a quote with you: "Insight is the first step to improvement." I do not find your statements, which you are offering here as responses to entirely justified criticism, helpful.
Point 1: As already mentioned, the majority of lecturers do not possess a diploma for the corresponding level. This means that a kindergarten teacher is evaluating lessons at the upper secondary level, or a high school teacher is training prospective primary school teachers.
Point 2: If you consider yourselves a university with a focus on in-person instruction, then the 80% attendance requirement should also apply to lecturers. Currently, a significant number of them come and go as they please. I find this to be a very problematic work ethic that should not be tolerated at a university. One usually receives notification the evening before that the following day will be spent studying asynchronously (independently) because the lecturer, for whatever reason, does not intend to be present the next morning.
Point 3: You claim that the overall quality of the courses is very good. I don't know anyone who shares this opinion.
There are a few lecturers who are really good, but unfortunately, they are in a very small minority.
Point 4: The political views of the lecturers shouldn't be a topic of discussion during classes. However, in several seminars, it feels like you're attending an introductory session for a cult (Special Education Institute).
Point 5: According to the delegates on the sounding board and the student council, our suggestions for improvement are rarely, if ever, implemented. The prime example is the mandatory 80% attendance requirement. Since almost all of us work other jobs due to the teacher shortage, I also find this to be a very trivial policy.

reasoning: The Google Maps candidate is part of the same parent institution (FHNW) and located in the correct city (Muttenz).
The name 'Pädagogische Hochschule FHNW' is a valid, shorter name for the source institution, which itself is a 'Pädagogische
Hochschule' (University of Teacher Education). While 'university' is an acceptable Google type for a university library,
its primary classification is not 'library'. Therefore, while it's highly likely that a library is part of this university,
the place itself represents the broader institution.
