The Christoph Merian Foundation (CMS) is the perfect example of how an organization that was supposed to serve the common good has long since transformed into an aloof and arrogant power institution. Instead of advocating for culture, diversity, and the city's residents, the CMS is deliberately destroying free spaces and small businesses – without regard for the consequences.

||

||
On its website, it boasts about promoting "social cohesion, cultural diversity, and the careful stewardship of nature in the city of Basel." Sounds nice – except that apparently doesn't apply to clubs and cultural venues that shape the nightlife. As soon as music, community, and alternative spaces are involved, there's no trace of support. Instead, arbitrary decisions, questionable evictions, and harassment are used against what makes Basel worth living in.

|
||
Anyone hoping for dialogue or fair treatment here will be waiting a long time – the CMS operates on the principle of "we do what we want," regardless of the impact on people who have been contributing to the city with dedication and creativity for years.
|
||
|
||
It's unbelievable that a foundation with such influence would act so shortsightedly and destructively. Basel deserves better than an institution that so clearly only cares about its own interests and displays of power.
|
||
|
||
Any support for this foundation is a direct contribution to the suppression of culture and local initiative. Anyone who loves Basel should think carefully about whether they want to support this.
|
||
|
||
One star is too many – zero would be more appropriate.
