text: Visited the London Archives today to see the London and World War II exhibition. A very interesting, beautifully curated and displayed small exhibition. We stayed to look at a few other exhibits and browse through some of the books. A well laid out pleasant place with friendly and helpful.staff and also well thought through accessibility provision.

text: 'It was an amazing visit, it was very easy to arrange the visit and all the staff very amazing and helpful on every way.

We went on the 22nd of November which luckily was the one Saturday of the month that was open, which is really good as it means you don''t have to go during a holiday if you work during the week. I emailed about 3 weeks before the visit for a synagogue marriage register and all I needed to do was get permission from the British board of Jews which was very easy. We turned up at the archives which is a short walk away from farringdon station and put our stuff in the freezer lockers provided, however to enter the search room we would have to get a history card which was easy enough as we could register and get the card at reception. We then passed through into the search room and were handed the documents almost instantly, we sat down at the plentiful tables provided and got to work.

The staff were amazing and helped us by answering queries we had, a visiting organisation called AGRA, who are professional genealogists, were incredible and answered all our questions and even found my Great Grandmothers entry on the 1939 register which was previously unknown as the ancestry transcription was incorrect.

If I could give higher than a 5, I would.

Focusing of course on material related to the capital, there are exhibits as well as archives for readers.
|
||
|
||
|
||
For accessing materials, one does need to register for a readers card and also bring identification.
|
||
|
||
|
||
There are excellent research facilities including a lounge for readers with drinks and water. One can donate so please do of you can. This is in one of my images.
|
||
|
||
|
||
If you are taking photos of files then you do need to buy a photo pass available there. Mine was reasonably priced.
|
||
|
||
|
||
You can also order documents online and their website explains how this works.
|
||

Very near St Pancras and Farrigdon stations.

text: 'We came for the free World War II exhibition, and spent about 30 minutes. It’s compact but very interesting lens on wartime London, shedding light on aspects of WWII not often covered in other exhibits.

||
It goes through how London managed during the war and is well-curated, with photographs, ordinance maps showing bombing damage, daily records, and personal records. There are candid insights to the era, such as accounts of the nightclub bombings, experiences of evacuated children, the ambulance service, and food rationing. It also shares things like the Wordsworth’s department store magazine and their practical challenges like supply chain disruptions and staff shortages, as well as the 1943 London County planning for post-war development ideas for neighborhood planning.
