I visited in October 2025.

||
Before going, I read the manga on the website about the history of the founding of Iwase Bunko. It was an opportunity to learn more about Mr. Iwase's character, including why admission is free and why his collection wasn't burned during the war.
|
||
There was an exhibit titled "Edo Publishing Culture and Tsutaya Juzaburo," and I visited to see Edo-period books, including the yellow-covered books so fascinatingly featured in the TV drama "Berabou." Borrowing an audio guide allowed me to listen to the explanations while browsing the exhibits, allowing me to fully concentrate and enjoy myself. I thoroughly enjoyed my time poring over each item, being surprised, impressed, and laughing.

Though small, it was clean and well-organized, the exhibits were easy to view, and the atmosphere was relaxing.
|
||
I was able to pick up and read the yellow-covered replica books, among other things. It was very interesting. When I filled out the questionnaire, I received a bookmark. On the day I visited, the illustration featured "Segawa Oiran," which I was happy about.
|
||
We enjoyed some delicious matcha in the lounge and bought some souvenirs, including a clear folder. When we asked if there were any restaurants nearby where we could have lunch, they showed us a few on a map. We walked to an eel restaurant, and as you'd expect from Nishio, it was delicious! Afterwards, we took the tourist guidebook we were given in the building and went sightseeing around the city before heading home.

It was a fun day, like a field trip.

The museum was renovated in 2003 and has a completely new look. It's easy to browse. You can take a break with a matcha tea in the rest area (fees apply).

||
|
||
Until November 30th, there is a special exhibition of "Tsutaju," which became famous overnight thanks to the NHK historical drama "Berabou." It was well worth seeing.
