Amazing ruins and a museum in such a place!

And it's free! Hirokawa Town is truly amazing.
|
||
Although it's a replica, the painted murals, the stone chamber inside the burial mound and the stone figures are definitely worth seeing!

Admission is free. The museum staff were very kind and gave us lots of advice about the burial mounds in the area. It was a pleasant time.

The adjacent Sekijinyama Tomb and its house-shaped stone coffin were magnificent and very appealing.

This museum displays the neighboring Sekijinyama Kofun and the slightly more distant Kokadani Kofun. It's a branch of the Iwatoyama Kofun, but slightly different. Admission is free, and parking is also free. Opening hours are 9:00am-4:00pm.

Sekijinyama Kofun, as its name suggests, is characterized by its stone figures. The stone figures are arranged around the mound, and their style and craftsmanship are extremely fascinating. There is a museum and a burial mound park.
|
||
|
||
There are not many parking spaces near the museum, but the parking lot near the Kokadani Kofun is quite large, so if you just want to see the burial mound without going to the museum, I recommend that parking lot.
|
||
|
||
You fill out a reception card on the first floor of the museum, and all you need to do is fill out the name of the city you live in, the number of people, and whether it is your first or second visit.

I think the town probably uses this as a reference for statistics.
|
||

||
The exhibition room is on the first floor, and the second floor seems to be a training room and a reference room, but only the first floor is open to the public.
|
||

||
There is a replica of the burial mound stone chamber in the lobby, and after visiting the exhibition room, you can go to see the actual burial mound.
|
||
|
||
The park is lush with greenery and is slightly elevated, so you can take a pleasant walk.
|
||
|
||
However, since it is on a hilly area, there are some ups and downs, so if you are not confident in your legs, it may be better to drive directly to the parking lot on the burial mound side.

||
|
||
Please note that this is only for the Kokadani Kofun.
|
||
If you go to Ishihitoyama Tomb from Koukadani Tomb, you have to go down steep stairs, climb a gentle slope, and finally climb some more stairs, so it is closer to Ishihitoyama Tomb from the museum.
|
||
You can see inside Ishihitoyama Tomb, but it is a little dim inside so the reception desk will lend you a flashlight.
|
||
The tomb has blackout curtains for protection, but you can open them when viewing, so the flashlight I borrowed at that time will be useful.
|
||
To get to Koukadani Tomb, take the opposite direction from the one I wrote about above.
|
||
Here you can climb to the top of the tomb and the 360-degree view from the top is pleasant.
|
||
Even if you have no interest in tombs, I recommend it as you can take a walk in the town while enjoying nature.

This museum is located in the Kofun Park where the Ishijinzan Kofun and the Koukadani Kofun are located. It's a good place to stop by before touring the burial mounds. This time, they lent me insect repellent and a flashlight. It was useful for looking at the stone sarcophagus at Ishijinzan Kofun.

Inside the museum, there is a replica of the murals on the inner wall of the stone roof of the Koukadani Kofun, so you can get a real feel for the murals that cannot be seen on the public. The displays of other excavated items are also useful.
