verbouwing eigen woning, werk en puur uit plezier. Het voelt als schatgraven!
De mensen die hier werken zijn altijd vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Er hangt een
prettige sfeer en het is heerlijk rustig.

text: 'Wij volgen er een cursus die gaat over de taal en cultuur van de Achterhoek.
De cursus is goed georganiseerd en goed te volgen.
Het gebouw ziet er mooi uit en er is voldoende informatie aanwezig voor onderzoek,
interesse, etc naar Achterhoeks en De Liemers erfgoed.
Een opmerking, alhoewel er gerekend is op mensen die minder valide zijn zoals
parkeerplaatsen e.d. kan dit zowel buiten als binnen iets beter geregeld worden.
Ik had d''r geerne iedere kear bi-j wollen zien, maor deur ziekten ging dat
nie.
De medewerkers zijn zeer vriendelijk en het probleem met de stoel had ik kunnen
oplossen door hulp aan de medewerkers te vragen. Zij stonden iedere keer klaar
om mij te helpen, dus schaam je vooral niet om hulp te vragen. Ze doen het met
liefde. Ik ga de cursus volgend jaar weer proberen.'

In het filmpje zie je Hempie Nieuwenhuis aan het werk in zijn werkplaats aan
de Terborgseweg 3, bij de Hamburgerpoort, op de hoek van de Badhuisstraat en
de Terborgseweg. Hempie is druk bezig met het vervaardigen van een vat, ook
wel bekend als een kuip. De houten strippen die hij gebruikt worden duigen genoemd.
Een van de klanten van Hempie was Vinkenborg Bakkerij grondstoffen. De vaten
die hij maakte werden gebruikt om gekonfijte vruchten in te doen voor verzending
naar verschillende bakkerijen. Interessant detail: Hempie kreeg zijn bijnaam
vanwege het hempje met schouderbandjes dat hij droeg tijdens de gymles die hij
gaf bij DGV (De Doetinchemse Gymnastiekvereniging).

yes how do you start in all those archives to find out the whole history from
your parents and your ancestors and where do you start if I would look for
a nickel break in America where have I where can I find something well you're
going to want to start here if you're if you are in the Netherlands you want
to start locally so I would suggest that you look for the immigration lists
that were compiled here um I know there are separate lists for vintage fight
Alton Bradford thinks below that lists all of the immigrants the year they
left it gives their birth date uh their address in some cases the name of
the farm they lived on so if there are numerous men with the same name the
birth dates and the name of the farm can be helpful there are records in the
gelders OR kief in open archive.nl in Vivas V here at ecal there are immigration
lists at the Documentation Center in Alton so there are many places that you
can look here at ecal there are also these wonderful books that were written
by or compiled by Robert swarena swear enough and in this book there are all
the people yes they went to America yes it's his only Dutch households so
he compiled the list of from immigration lists from ship passenger lists and
then in the United States the census record for 1860 1870 1880. so it would
tell you the name of the father and the name of the mother and all the children
in the Census records the ship passenger lists are fabulous because it tells
you when they left the Netherlands where they arrived what ship they were
on which means you can then also look for the ship passenger list to see if
there were other people from your village who were on the same ship with that
person that will help you find them in the in in the United States if you
have that immigration information but then you have you need to find what
Dutch community in the United States they went to because depending on the
year they immigrated it could be many different places some of that you can
find in Serena's books because it will tell you where they went either in
the ship passenger list or then you match it with the census record it will
at least tell you the state and hopefully the county then you can transfer
your research to the United States um family search is a very large website
run by the Mormon church it's the largest amount of genealogical information
in the world so they have digitized Dutch records as well as the U.S records
but then you can start to put the pieces together of do I need to find them
in Michigan or Iowa or Nebraska or new you know New Jersey wherever it might
be and then you can go to the um the archives or the State Historical Society
for those places in order to look for more information but I also tell people
to not forget simple things like Google if you're uncertain Google the name
because it if that name appears in an archival record it may come up if someone
has their own website with information about that Family the name will come
up so you can scroll through at least it will give you a lead to finding more
information about where in the U.S they are then you can look from our records

born in Wisconsin yes and then the day it came out that your ancestors before
came from Holland yes you found out um I always knew that it was I didn't
know a lot about the family in the Netherlands I only knew about my grandparents
who had died before I was born but my my mother would talk about her family
so I knew my father's family was from Zealand but I didn't know where where
was Sims yeah I uh that's all I knew so over 30 years ago I began to search
for information in the United States so that I could then continue my research
here okay and what came out of that research my granddad came from New Zealand
Holland yes um and my mother's family is half from the province okay so those
were both very large immigration populations that came to Wisconsin so many
people where I grew up in Wisconsin are from either their ancestors are from
Zealand or uh the ultra hook so then I would I was able to start finding where
what the villages were and because there were some people in Wisconsin who
had already done research they suggested people here that I could write to
this was before the internet oh it was old school old school so we wrote letters
um the first time I came here to do research in 1995 because we had no records
in the United States that we could use to do research with one of the first
ones yes birth marriage death records immigration records so I would go to
archives and libraries and photocopy as much as I could I would buy books
I went home with 50 pounds of paper 50 pounds yes an entire suitcase that
was nothing but archival paper that I would take back to the United States
because I was the only one who had it so I could then do my research but I
could share that with other researchers who were looking for information and
what was the most uh things you were really one really for me a really important
Discovery I may about my remaker and answers ramaker ramachar they had a weaving
School in the octahook for four generations before they immigrated they became
Farmers because they couldn't make a living running a weaving school or doing
that there yeah yeah I am a weaver so I have two master's degrees in textiles
so I weave I print cloth I design clothing or stealing your DNA for me it
was just this delightful discovery of someone else in my family did what I
do now that it may not be anything genetic but it gave me a different tie
to hear that someone else had done that and I have all the Weaver's Guild
records so I could go into the Weavers Guild records and find my ancestors
names for Generations thank you

bewaard gebleven er zijn bijvoorbeeld hele lijsten per provincie van wie er
naar Amerika vertrekt en waar ze vandaan komen met hoe hoeveel mensen gaan
ze wat zijn hun bezittingen die zit er op die juist op die bollen helemaal
geweldig en al die puzzelstukjes van Al die lijsten al die overheidsdocumenten
