text: 'Het museum voor realistische Kunst, met schilderwerken van de 8 leden van

de familie Slager (van ongeveer 1860-1950) nodigt uit om de vele schilderijen
|
||
te bezichtigen die in wisseltentoonstellingen te zien zijn. Voor kinderen zijn
|
||
er het kinderatelier, een speurtocht en speciale kinderdagen.
|
||
|
||
Vlak na de Tweede Wereldoorlog kocht een dochter een eerste deel van dit museum
|
||
aan de Choorstraat. Met steun van de gemeente, fondsen en vrijwilligers kon
|
||
men meer ruimten verwerven, alle onder monumententoezicht, wat betekent dat
|
||
alles in de oorspronkelijke staat moet blijven. Dit heeft wel effect op de toegankelijkheid
|
||
want een deel ligt 5 trappen hoger dan het andere deel. Is men totaal rolstoelafhankelijk
|
||
dan kan men toch alles bekijken via de voor- en daarna de achterkant van het
|
||
museum.
|
||
|
||
Het is vooral Petrus Marinus als bevlogen docent aan de Koninklijke School voor
|
||
Kunst de kunstbeoefening in ’s-hertogenbosch stimuleerde en de liefde voor het
|
||
schilderen ook op zijn kinderen overdroeg; twee van hen huwden een vrouw die
|
||
eveneens schilderde. Zo zijn er werken van 8 leden te bekijken. De familiaire
|
||
affiniteit doet denken aan de Jeroen Bosch familie enkele eeuwen eerder.
|
||
|
||
Bij binnenkomst ontvangt je enkele folders die je eigenlijk even rustig moet
|
||
lezen, want daarmee zijn veel vragen die opkomen beantwoord. De schilderijen
|
||
in bepaalde ruimten zijn gegroepeerd volgens een bepaald thema, zoals: ’s-hertogenbosch
|
||
als garnizoensstad, het culturele leven, en het kunstonderwijs. Net als bij
|
||
de Bosch familie leveren de 4 schilderende vrouwen een belangrijke bijdrage,
|
||
hun werken worden samen in twee ruimten getoond, grotere werken worden onder
|
||
een ander thema getoond. Voor de goede waarnemer is er veel te zien en te leren,
|
||
zoals die kolonel die op 17-jarige leeftijd intrad en de oud-strijders op zeer
|
||
hoge leeftijd.
|
||
|
||
Zoals gezegd is het museum redelijk toegankelijk, de gastvrouwen zorgen er voor
|
||
dat je zich als gast beschouwt, meer dan als kijker; met een kop koffie toe.
|
||
|
||
Ook was er een tentoonstelling van werken van Toon Hermans. In zijn vrije tijd
|
||
bleek hij enkele zeer kleurrijke schilderstukken te hebben geschapen, naast
|
||
vele om therapeutisch bezig te zijn. Met de roem die hij in zijn glorietijd
|
||
onderging, had deze eenvoudige jongen, die zich uit als non perfectionist, het
|
||
soms te kwaad. Het schilderen bracht dan de nodige rust.'

text: 'Museum Slager is een verborgen parel in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Dit bijzondere

||
museum biedt een unieke inkijk in het leven en werk van de schildersfamilie
|
||
Slager. Met werken van acht verschillende familieleden, verdeeld over drie generaties,
|
||
is er een fascinerende ontwikkeling in de schilderkunst te zien. Bovendien geeft
|
||
de collectie een boeiend beeld van het culturele en sociale leven in ‘s-Hertogenbosch
|
||
tussen 1840 en het einde van de twintigste eeuw.

||

||

||
Het museum oogt van buiten bescheiden, maar eenmaal binnen blijkt het ruimer
|
||
dan verwacht. De zalen zijn sfeervol ingericht en de kunstwerken zijn prachtig
|
||
gepresenteerd. De vriendelijke medewerkers dragen bij aan een gastvrije sfeer
|
||
en delen met enthousiasme hun kennis over de collectie.
|
||
|
||

||
Naast de vaste collectie was er ook de tijdelijke expositie ‘Van Paarden en
|
||
Ander Moois’ van Jan Peeters te bewonderen. Deze tentoonstelling was werkelijk
|
||
indrukwekkend. De aquarellen van Peeters zijn zó realistisch dat ze haast op
|
||
foto’s lijken. Vooral het schilderij van amazone Dinja van Liere met Hermès,
|
||
een eyecatcher in de expositie, viel op door de krachtige details en het levensechte
|
||
karakter. Peeters heeft een bijzonder talent om niet alleen de anatomie, maar
|
||
ook de ziel van zijn paarden vast te leggen.
|
||
|
||
|
||
De kunstenaar was zelf aanwezig en wist met passie over zijn werk te vertellen,
|
||
wat de ervaring extra bijzonder maakte. Naast de paardenportretten waren er
|
||
ook diverse landschappen en stadsgezichten te zien, waaronder herkenbare plekken
|
||
uit ‘s-Hertogenbosch en het Zeeuwse landschap.
|
||
|
||
|
||
Museum Slager is absoluut een bezoek waard. De combinatie van een bijzondere
|
||
vaste collectie, een verrassend ruime opzet en boeiende wisseltentoonstellingen
|
||
maakt het een must-see voor kunstliefhebbers. Een aanrader voor wie zich wil
|
||
onderdompelen in de geschiedenis en schilderkunst van de regio.'
