Fantastische locatie, museum heeft te werken met zijn oorspronkelijke functie en dus opbouw. Museum voelt daarom soms onlogisch en je mist hierdoor de flow/ verhaallijn.

|
||
Hebben hier grotendeels van onze museumnacht doorgebracht, genoten en geleerd. Zou hier alleen terug gaan met een met guide voor meer diepgang.

Vooraf geen tickets gekocht maar dat is op een doordeweekse dag als vandaag niet nodig. Er is geen wachtrij en we kunnen vlot binnen.

Het pand is prachtig en er is een duidelijke signalisatie wat we waar kunnen vinden. Wie het Scheepvaartmuseum in Amsterdam bezoekt, verwacht een lofzang op de maritieme geschiedenis van een land dat ooit de zeeën beheerste. In plaats daarvan stuiten we op een andere toon: die van schuldbesef, verontschuldiging en morele herinterpretatie. Natuurlijk, reflectie op het koloniale verleden is noodzakelijk – maar moet dat ten koste gaan van trots, verwondering en historisch besef?

Het museum presenteert onze maritieme geschiedenis tegenwoordig alsof de zeevaart hoofdzakelijk een aanloop was naar uitbuiting. De nadruk ligt zwaar op slavernij, onderdrukking en ongelijkheid. Dat zijn belangrijke thema’s, maar de balans is zoek. De technologische innovatie, de moed van ontdekkingsreizigers en de economische ondernemingszin die Nederland eeuwenlang een plaats op het wereldtoneel gaven, lijken bijna bijzaak.

||
Op het schip ´De Amsterdam' wordt zelfs nog met de vinger gewezen naar het stadsbestuur van pakweg 40 jaar geleden, omdat zij toestemming geven om deze replica te bouwen als project om de vele werkelozen aan de slag te helpen. Beschamend.
|
||
|
||
Toch geef ik 4 sterren. De collectie blijft prachtig en de tijdelijke collectie met aandacht voor textiel en scheepvaart is bijzonder knap vormgegeven. Dus zeker bezoeken, maar sla het lezen van de informatiebordjes maar grotendeels over.

kinderen, dus ook voor volwassenen is het erg leuk. Aardig personeel. Het leukste blijft toch wel het replica van VOC

schip de ''Amsterdam'' die je kan bezoeken. Ook de Koningssloep van Koning Willem I is te zien. Daar voldoende informatie

te lezen/vinden. In het museum zelf heb je van alles te zien: van schilderijen tot zeekaarten. Wij waren er ongeveer

3-4 uurtjes. Er is ook een restaurant aanwezig en een souvenirshop. Zeker een aanrader!'
