"about": "Jonathan Bikker studied art history in his native Canada and earned a PhD from Utrecht University in the Netherlands in 2001 for his dissertation on the Rembrandt pupil Willem Drost (Yale University Press, 2005). Jonathan has worked at the Rijksmuseum since 2001, where he is currently Curator of Seventeenth-Century Dutch Painting. His primary task has been the cataloguing of the museum's holdings of seventeenth-century Dutch paintings. He has also contributed to a number of Rijksmuseum exhibition catalogues and was (co-)curator of the exhibitions Late Rembrandt (2014/15) and High Society (2018). He has published extensively on painting of the Dutch Golden Age and Rembrandt in particular, including small books on The Night Watch, The Jewish Bride and the portraits of Marten Soolmans and Oopjen Coppit, as well as scholarly articles and exhibition catalogue essays. His latest book is Rembrandt: Biography of a Rebel. He is a member of the research team for Operation Night Watch, which is currently taking place at the Rijksmuseum.
