is an absolute must to better understand the history of work and its struggles, and how we have snatched every advance
|
||
from the big bosses who have long spread misery by underpaying the workforce. It is a fascinating and documented exhibition,
|
||
full of photos and full of hope. Very beautiful place, lovely staff, top exhibition. Run and visit this place!

text: 'In 1843, Louis-Bossut, son of a merchant family from Tourcoing and son-in-law of the mayor of Roubaix, built a

massive five-story building on the banks of a waterway on the Roubaix Canal to house his cotton mill.
|
||

||

||
The building resembled a fortified castle, and the factory was so large that it earned the nickname "the monster mill."
|
||
|
||
|
||
Today, only a fragment of the surrounding wall remains.
|
||
|
||
At the time, however, it was a symbol of technological innovation from across the Canal.
|
||
|
||
|
||
From its early years, the building was ravaged by fires, fueled by the wood flooring and the ubiquity of dust.
|
||
|
||
|
||
Nevertheless, the factory assumed a leading role and only closed in 1981.
|
||
|
||
|
||
Since then, it has housed the National Archives of the World of Work.'

text: The former Motte Bossut spinning mill has been superbly restored. This former textile factory is a listed historical

||
monument. The building evokes a fortified castle with its crenellated towers, an effect reinforced by the metal structure
|
||
installed at the entrance, reminiscent of a drawbridge. A fine example of Roubaix's rich heritage. Today, this iconic
|
||
Roubaix building houses the National Archives of the World of Work. A guided tour of the ANMT is organized at the beginning
|
||
of each month. A very interesting guided tour.
